Signs You Need Desiccant Air Dryer Maintenance

Many signs can indicate your equipment requires air or gas dryer service, including:

  • Clogged drains
  • High inlet and ambient air temperatures
  • Improper purge amounts
  • Diminished dew point performance
  • Dirty dryer coils
  • Low refrigerant charge
  • Degrading desiccants
  • Failing filters
  • Leaks

Air and Gas Dryer Service Frequency

Each component of your dryer system requires periodic maintenance. Pioneer Air recommends the following frequencies for your air and gas dryer services:

  • Pre-filters and filters: You should swap out filters at least once every 8,000 hours of operation, but Pioneer recommends regularly changing them together every 6 to 12 months.
  • Inlet, purge, check, and solenoid valves: Valves should be inspected regularly and changed out as needed. Keeping up with O-ring and valve seal maintenance is much more cost-effective than replacing an entire valve.
  • Mufflers: Pioneer Air recommends you replace mufflers every 6 to 12 months.
  • Desiccants: Heat regenerated desiccants for dryers have an expected service life of 2 to 3 years, while activated alumina can last up to 5 years in a heatless dryer.
